Hitt Rd starts–at the low end–at Strawberry and connects to 2060 at the high end. Part-way up Hitt Rd, somewhere after passing the Fell on Knee trail, the road is on Forest Service land and technically known as FS 2060-300. Most recreational users think of the entirety as Hitt Rd.
Hitt Rd seems to have more bear sightings than many trails.
History
This road/trail is named after E.P. Hitt, who on March 29, 1935 deeded a significant amount of property to the city of Ashland. The road had appar-ently been used for logging. Many maps show Hitt Rd proceeding up what many know as the Mystical trail (which is on private land) to Ostrich Peak. It is not clear if this is historically accurate.
