Snark - Bandersnatch - Lower Red Queen Loop

Snark - Bandersnatch - Lower Red Queen Loop

    – 3.1 miles
    – 1,200 ft of vertical

Starting at Witzend Trailhead, head south on Waterline past Bandersnatch, BTI and Jabberwocky.  You’ll be above Ashland Creek for awhile. Continue up Snark as it climbs steeply before entering a shady glen, now just barely on Forest Service property. Snark then turns north and crosses Jabberwocky and rolls up and down–steeply at times– eventually intersecting with Bandersnatch. Turn right at Bandersnatch, crest at Alice and head down the other side of Bandersnatch. Turn left at Jubjub, right at Lower Red Queen, and left on Ashland Loop Rd to eventually arrive at the Witzend trail on your left (not currently marked).

There is a substantial amount of climbing and descending in this interesting single-track hike. Watch out for downhill mt bikes on Waterline (both Jabberwocky and BTI downhill bike routes finish here). The occasional, rare rider also uses Snark. Poison oak grows along the sunnier exposures of Snark, so pay attention to that as well.
